After arriving on a season-long loan on deadline day in the summer, Jonathan Leko has enjoyed a fairly fruitful time at Charlton. The 20-year-old has featured in every Championship game barring two, and has shown a decent end product too, scoring five times and providing a further three assists. And against Hull on Friday night, the man on loan from West Brom delivered one of his finest displays in an Addicks shirt. As per Sofascore, his 7.4 match rating was only bettered by one of his teammates in goal-scorer Darren Pratley, and when you look at the kind of individual numbers he produced in the game, it is easy to see why.
As well as his assist for Naby Sarr’s strike, Leko provided one key pass and created one big chance too. And as well as his offensive contributions, the 20-year-old put in a real shift going back towards his own goal. He made two interceptions, two tackles, two clearances and also won an impressive six of his nine ground duels. Having seen his performance, Charlton fans flooded to Twitter to hail their forward.
Many supporters admitted that after criticising him for some of his recent performances, he had gone on to prove them wrong big time with his impressive display against the Tigers.
Some fans even suggested that Friday night was his best performance for the club, with one in particular claiming that he had the “game of his life”.
At just 20-years-old, Leko still has plenty of room to grow, and as he continues to get regular first-team opportunities under Lee Bowyer, he will surely thrive.
Meanwhile, Lee Bowyer has opened up on how much Charlton miss this influential ace.
