Charlie Adam has withdrawn from the Scotland squad for their Euro 2012 qualifier against Lithuania on Tuesday, adding to manager Craig Levein’s woes.
The Liverpool playmaker picked up a hip injury against Czech Republic on Saturday, and was substituted due to the knock on 79 minutes.
Adam joins the likes of Craig Mackail-Smith, Kenny Miller and Scott Brown in being unavailable for the next game, with the celtic nation’s hopes of featuring in Ukraine and Poland quickly fading away.
Scotland’s opponents at the weekend Czech Republic were awarded a controversial last minute penalty, which meant the game ended 2-2, but striker Miller is not using this as an excuse for not picking up three points.
“With this match, even allowing for the refereeing decisions, I personally feel that their chances could have been stopped at the source before the lad gets in,” the Cardiff City forward told The Telegraph.
“It’s disappointing when the ref gets it wrong but we’ve got to look at ourselves and ask if we’d tracked runners or whatever: I think we could have done a little bit better, we could have done more to stop them.”
Scotland sit third in Group I, and with only five points from five games need a minor miracle to progress through the pool.
