Brendan Rodgers confirmed on Wednesday that fans will have to wait to see new signing Marvin Compper in action after the defender picked up a calf injury during training that will rule him out for three to four weeks.
It’s a blow for the Bhoys, who have had to face injury issues in the centre of defence throughout the season, going all the way back to last summer’s UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
With Erik Sviatchenko leaving this week, the Hoops again aren’t exactly blessed with depth in the position and Rodgers will be hoping no more injuries occur to his established first team defenders.
Fans were hoping the arrival of Compper could add a bit of stability to their defensive line but this initial set-back will have to put that on hold for the Hoops’ first month back to action after the winter break.
Celtic face Brechin in the Scottish Cup this weekend, beginning their defence of the trophy they won last May.
