Manchester United are lining up a bid for PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn, per The Sun.
The Red Devils are set to scout the winger this month with a view to submitting an offer worth £25million.
What’s the word?
Caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly hoping to secure the exciting Netherlands international to bolster his attacking ranks at United.
Bergwijn has scored nine times in just 16 Eredivisie games thus far this season, and United’s boss is set to send scouts to watch him in the coming weeks.
United are keen to add width to their attack, having repeatedly deployed Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in wide roles despite their preference for playing through the middle.
Bergwijn has subsequently emerged as a target, though they may face a fight to secure his signature, with Liverpool also credited with an interest.
Of course, United have done business with PSV before, spending £31million in 2015 to secure the signing of Memphis Depay.
That deal did not work out, and Solskjaer will be hoping there is no repeat of that transfer this time around.
Once burned, twice shy
Depay joined United on the back of a series of scintillating displays for the Netherlands in the 2014 World Cup, but was unable to show his worth at Old Trafford.
The winger scored just seven goals after being signed by Louis van Gaal; only two of those came in the Premier League.
Jose Mourinho sanctioned his £16m sale to Lyon in 2017, United taking a significant hit on what they paid for the Netherlands international.
He has since gone on to score 33 goals and provide 37 assists in 94 games for the French club, having moved with something of a chip on his shoulder.

United, then, will be desperate to complete their due diligence on Bergwijn, or they risk paying out for yet another big-money flop.
The winger is clearly an exciting talent, but his statistics actually pale in comparison to Depay, who had scored 50 goals and provided 29 assists in 124 PSV appearances before his move.
Bergwijn, conversely, has scored 20 times and provided 23 assists in 21 fewer outings.
Thus, United would be wise to tread carefully.
